The Uncanny Valley is an interesting article that describes how less-than-perfect attempts at the perfect human form turns observers off, while those same observers may enjoy both stylised and perfect human forms.
1/3rd of the way done! w00t!! I batted around three or four ideas seriously, but wound up doing eldritch horror set in 1920's Cairo. I wonder where I got that idea. It's much less pulpy than CiC, though.
